A client's offhand comment made me rethink balayage pricing
I was doing a full balayage last Tuesday and this client, super sweet lady in her 50s, said something like 'you know, I pay more for this than I did for my wedding dress.' It hit different because she wasn't complaining, she was just stating a fact. Then she told me she only gets it done twice a year because of the cost. I started doing the math on my own pricing, and I realize I've been undercharging for the time I actually spend on foils and toning. Maybe it's just me, but I think a lot of us in this industry are scared to raise prices because we think clients will leave. But if someone is already paying $180 and coming back, maybe $220 isn't that crazy. Has anyone else had a client accidentally make them rethink their whole price list? I'd love to know how you handled bumping up your rates without losing regulars.
Wait, regulars stay even after a raise? How much are we talking, like a dollar more or something small? I always figured a price hike would send half the usual crowd looking for a cheaper spot.
