A client told me my blending looked muddy around her temples
She was right, I was overworking the color there. Now I feather it out way lighter and only go back in if I really need to. Any of you get feedback that totally changed your technique?

Huh, I actually think a little muddiness can look more natural than perfectly feathered edges.

Oh wow, that's exactly what I've been saying. Muddy edges look like they actually lived through a storm or got shuffled around by the wind. Why spend hours smoothing something out when the real world is full of grit and chaos?

Yeah, don't you think we get too caught up in making everything look perfect? Sometimes a little bit of mess makes the whole thing feel more real, like it actually belongs there. I see a lot of people trying to smooth out every single feather and it just ends up looking like a plastic toy. The natural world has rough edges, so a touch of muddiness kind of tells the story of how it got there. It's a good reminder that not everything needs to be cleaned up to look right.
