A client in Denver said my color formula felt like a 'prescription' and it stuck with me.
She was getting a root touch up and mentioned her old stylist just asked about her mood and the season. I realized I was so focused on the technical numbers I forgot to ask what she actually wanted to feel. Now I start every consult with 'What's the vibe?' before I even open the color book. How do you balance the formula with the feeling for a client?

That's such a great way to put it.

Wait, you actually liked that part... I thought for sure that was the weakest point in the whole argument.

Huh, that part actually landed because it showed the cracks in their own logic. Most people focus on where they think the argument is strong, but that weak point kind of exposes what they're really not saying.
