Just figured out I was greasing my excavator bucket pins way too often
A guy on my crew with 20 years in the seat asked me why I was pumping grease into the bucket pins every single morning on our Cat 305. I said that's what I was taught. He said every day is too much, it just pushes dirt past the seals and wears the pins out faster, and once a week is plenty unless you're in mud or water. I pulled the pins two months later and sure enough they had grit packed in the joint. So how often are you guys greasing bucket and thumb pins, and does it change when you're working in wet ground?
