Bought a used plate compactor for $400 out of a guy's barn near Modesto, thinking I got a steal
It ran great on flat ground, so I figured it was fine. First job on a slope it kept stalling on me and a mechanic later pointed out the carb was gummed up from sitting and the oil was like syrup. Lesson burned into me: never trust how a machine sounds on level dirt, run it under a load first. What do you all check on a used machine before handing over cash?
