Tried the 'tin foil on the antenna' trick for FM radio static

My car radio was picking up nothing but garbage driving through Phoenix last month. Wrapped the antenna base in tinfoil as a joke and suddenly got clear reception on three stations. Anyone else stumble on a hack like this by accident?

Phoenix has some weird FM propagation issues though...

You're making it sound like some kind of mystery of the universe. It's just radio signals bouncing off stuff, happens everywhere with the right weather and terrain. People act like Phoenix is the only place with weird FM reception, but drive through any mountain pass and you'll hear stations from three states away. Half the time it's probably just interference from someone's busted alternator or a cheap LED light bar anyway. Unless you're a hardcore DXer with a rooftop antenna, it's not gonna ruin your day. Let's not act like this is some bizarre anomaly, it's just physics doing its thing.
