The guy at the gas station who made me stop trusting oil change coupons
So last Thursday I pulled into this Shell station off I-10 in El Paso because I had a coupon for a $19.99 oil change, thought I was being smart. The dude behind the counter saw the coupon and starts laughing, says "everyone who brings that in ends up with a $400 bill by the time we check the air filter and wiper blades." I laughed it off but then he showed me the fine print on the back, it said 'synthetic blend not included' and 'shop supplies extra' and 'disposal fee per quart.' I paid $67 for what was supposed to be a $20 deal, then the receipt had a survey code that gave me a chance to win a free tire rotation. Now I never walk into a quick lube place without asking the total price three times, and I bring my own dipstick to check the level before I leave. Has anyone else gotten burned by one of those advertised oil change specials that are clearly bait?
