The floor jack that let go under my F-150 in the driveway
Last Saturday I was swapping a brake line and had the truck up on a 3 ton jack. It held fine for 20 minutes then just dropped a few inches out of nowhere, lucky I wasn't under there. Turns out the release valve was worn and leaking fluid slowly, so the whole thing bled down. My neighbor saw it happen and said the same thing happened to him with a cheaper jack from the auto parts store. Anyone else ever had a jack fail like that and what did you switch to?
Swapped mine for a cheap jack stand setup after the same scare, never trusted a floor jack alone again. The failure was a slow bleed from a bad O-ring inside, not the weight rating, so even a good brand can do it. Now I always set the stands first and keep the jack just touching the frame as a backup.
