Serious question, I think my smart fridge is spying on me for a cereal company.

I keep finding ads for the same brand of cereal on my phone after talking about it near the fridge.

Honestly, that doesn't sound crazy at all. These smart devices are always listening for wake words, and sometimes it feels like they hear everything. I mean, I've had similar stuff happen with my phone ads after talking about random things. Maybe it's just me, but the tech companies swear they don't sell your voice data, but who knows. It's creepy how connected everything is now. You might want to check your fridge's privacy settings, idk.

Yeah, the "creepy how connected everything is" line from karen_owens is spot on. My smart speaker once played an ad for cat food after I joked about getting a kitten, and I don't even own a cat. It's getting a bit much.

When karen_owens said smart devices hear everything, it hit home. I mutter about snacks near my fridge, and next thing I know, my phone is showing me ads for chips. I feel like my appliances are judging my life choices. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if my toaster started giving me diet tips. It's gotten so bad I whisper around my tech, which probably makes me look a bit crazy. But hey, at least the targeted ads are for things I actually want.
