Realized I was storing my emergency candles wrong after a basement flood last month

I kept all my candles in cardboard boxes on the basement floor, thinking they'd be fine for years. Then a pipe burst and ruined about 40 of them before I even thought to raise them up on shelves. Has anyone else learned the hard way about a simple storage mistake with their prepper supplies?

Read something similar on a prepping forum a few months back. Someone mentioned keeping candles in sealed plastic bins with silica gel packets to absorb moisture, which makes a lot of sense after hearing your story. Another tip I remember is to store them off the floor by at least a few inches, even if you don't have shelves, just using bricks or wood planks can help. Cardboard boxes on concrete are pretty much a disaster waiting to happen, especially in a basement. Sounds like you learned a tough lesson but at least the rest of your stuff might be safe now.
