Pro tip: someone told me my basil was leggy because I wasn't using enough heat from the grow light and now I keep it 3 inches closer

My neighbor walked over last June and literally laughed at my sad little plants on the windowsill, said I was treating them like shade lovers when they need that intense direct warmth, and after I moved the lamp down and set a timer for 14 hours my basil doubled in size within two weeks has anyone else had a random comment completely fix their gardening game?

My mate put her basil in a pizza box and swore the cardboard reflected light better.

Heat alone isn't really the whole story with basil, they need that intensity but too much direct lamp heat can actually scorch the leaves if you're not careful. Light distance is more about the specific bulb type and wattage than just cramming it closer, some of those cheap grow lights put out way more heat than usable light. What worked for one person might fry your plants if your setup is different, so it's worth checking your bulb specs before moving things around.
