My neighbor's garage door opener started working again after I told him about the 'solar flare interference' theory
His unit had been dead for a month, but after I joked that maybe the government was testing new signals (you know, like they do), he went out, smacked the motor, and it fired right up. Now he's convinced I'm onto something and keeps asking me about other 'electronic sabotage' in the neighborhood. Has anyone else had a totally normal fix get wrapped up in a wild theory like that?

Notice this happens all the time with tech support for my older relatives. They'll have a simple password issue or a loose cable, but once you mention "hackers" or "viruses," that becomes the only story they believe. It creates this weird folklore around everyday glitches where the simplest answer gets ignored for a more exciting one. Why do you think we're so quick to believe in hidden patterns over plain old luck?

But is it just about excitement? Feels like calling it a "hack" gives a sense of control, like there's a villain to blame instead of just random chaos.
