Hot take: I thought all wifi jammers were fake until I caught my neighbor blocking my Ring camera from 50 feet away

After 6 months of blaming my router for spotty footage, I tested a jammer detector from Amazon and the guy two doors down admitted he was using one to mess with my feed, has anyone else caught someone doing this?

And honestly the scariest part is how easy it is for anyone to buy one of these things online. I looked into it after my neighbor got caught and you can get a device that shuts down cameras, wifi, garage openers, everything for like 40 bucks. No questions asked, no license needed. The thing that gets me is how long it took to figure out what was happening because the signal cuts are so random and brief you just assume your router is acting up. My camera logs showed 3 second disconnects every 15 minutes which is exactly how those low power jammers work. The police told me they cant do anything about it unless I have proof of intent and even then its a gray area in most states. Now I just run hardwired PoE cameras for the important angles and tell everyone to stop relying completely on wireless security stuff.

You totally just changed my mind on this @campbell.robin. I used to think wireless cameras were just fine and hardwired stuff was overkill for a regular house. But your neighbor story and the 3 second disconnect thing is exactly what happened to a buddy of mine and we all blamed his crappy router. Now I see how stupid that was. I already swapped my front door camera to a wired one and I'm looking at PoE for the backyard too. No point having security if someone can shut it off with a $40 gadget.
