That time my brother's Switch melted on the dashboard of his truck

My brother left his Switch in his truck last July during a heat wave here in Phoenix. By the time he got back from work, the screen was warped and the right Joy-Con had literally separated from the rail. I told him to try leaving it in the fridge for 20 minutes just to see if it would snap back, but nope, totally dead. Has anyone else accidentally cooked a console in the car or am I the only one who learned this the hard way?

OH MY GOD, the "literally separated from the rail" part. I had a PSP that I left in my glove box during a Texas summer and the whole disc drive basically bubbled up and popped out. It was like a science experiment gone wrong. The plastic got all soft and sticky too, felt like melted cheese. I tried putting it in the freezer like a dummy and the screen just cracked from the temperature shock. So yeah, you're definitely not alone, Phoenix heat is no joke and neither is Texas heat apparently.

You try sending it in to Nintendo or just writing it off? I had a 3DS XL warp in my car once and the repair cost was basically the same as buying a used one on eBay so I just tossed it. For the Switch specifically, check the serial number on the back - some of the early models had a known issue where the SD reader would fail if the system got too hot, so even if the plastic survived the board might be fried. Next time tell your brother to just bring it inside with him and deal with the glare from the screen instead of leaving it in a 150 degree truck.
