That 3 hour YouTube breakdown on Hades 2 early access made me finally see why roguelikes click for people
Watched a dev talk about how the random boon combos actually create unique stories each run, and now I'm 40 hours deep on Switch, so has anyone else had a single video flip their opinion on an entire genre?

Yeah I gotta push back a little on this one. I watched that same Hades 2 video and it honestly just made me more frustrated with roguelikes. The whole "unique stories each run" thing feels like a cop out to me - you're still doing the same basic loop over and over, just with slightly different numbers. I've tried Hades, Dead Cells, Slay the Spire, all of them, and it never clicks. The randomness just feels like the game saying "lol try again" instead of actually letting you get good at something. Maybe I'm missing some secret sauce but I'd rather play a game where my skill actually matters than one where I'm at the mercy of what boons pop up.

You make a fair point, @gibson.oliver. I get where you're coming from because that randomness can feel less like skill and more like luck sometimes. The thing that works for me is focusing on the small improvements you can make, like learning enemy patterns or trying a different weapon. But I won't lie, there's definitely runs where the game just hands you bad options and that sucks the fun out of it.
