Our tiny apartment game nights went from 4 people to 9 in two months, and all it took was one rule
Back in March it was just me, my roommate, and two friends squeezed around one tv, and someone always left mad about losing at Mario Kart. We started a rule that the winner has to hand the controller to whoever got last place, and the mood changed fast. It went from 4 of us to 9 by May because people actually wanted to bring their Switch and PlayStation friends over instead of picking sides. Last Friday we ran two screens at once, one Nintendo and one Xbox, and nobody argued about which one was better the entire night. Curious if other people here have a house rule that keeps the peace, because I want to add one more before this gets too big.
Oh man this reminds me of when my cousins and I started doing loser picks the next game at family reunions. My uncle brought this old dart board one year and made it a rule that whoever lost had to pick the next thing we played, so we ended up doing darts, then cards, then some weird bean bag toss he had in his trunk. The arguing basically stopped overnight because everyone knew they'd get a turn to choose eventually. So yeah, your controller rule is basically the same idea and it works great, maybe add a thing where the last place person also picks the snack for the night.
