I finally had a talk with a random player in Monster Hunter that changed how I see crossplay
Met this Xbox guy in a lobby last month who was super patient explaining weapon combos to me (a PlayStation player) without once trash talking my console choice. Has anyone else had a genuine helpful moment from someone on a different system that proved the rivalry is just noise?

Yeah, the rivalry is total noise" - that part really hit home for me. A buddy of mine, Dave, he's a PC guy and I'm on Xbox, we met in a different game years ago. One time he spent like two hours walking me through the optimal build for my character in Destiny 2, never once made fun of me for having no idea what I was doing. We still squad up all the time, and honestly I forget what system he's on half the time until I see his name pop up with a different icon. It's funny how the whole console war thing only feels real on social media, not when you're actually playing with someone cool.

That's a nice story, but I think the rivalry gets downplayed too much in these conversations. Cross-play only works smoothly for the big mainstream titles, and even then PC players often have a clear advantage with mouse aiming. Try playing a competitive shooter like Overwatch or Valorant where frame rates and input lag actually matter, and you'll notice the gap real quick. The hardware differences still create real barriers that friendship alone can't fix.
