Appreciation post: my kid beat the water temple in Tears of the Kingdom and I finally get why we all play the same games
My 11 year old sat on the couch next to me for about 90 minutes in our living room in Sacramento working through that water temple while I messed around on my old PS3, and instead of the usual jokes about whose console is better we just traded tips back and forth like it was nothing. He figured out the puzzle before I did and I actually said nice job out loud, which felt weird but good. Anybody else got a moment this month where playing games side by side with someone on a different system made the whole console thing feel kind of silly?
The "he figured out the puzzle before I did" part got me. That is the whole thing right there, isn't it? My daughter runs circles around me on Minecraft and I just hand her the controller now instead of pretending I know where the diamonds are. Kids do not care what box the game is on, they care that you are sitting there with them.
