Tried a magnesium floor hardener on a garage slab last week
Had a guy pour a 30x40 garage and wanted it super dense. Mixed in a gallon of lithium hardener additive. Brought my burnisher back after 4 days and that floor rang like a bell. Any of you guys use additives to boost surface density on residential jobs?

Read somewhere that lithium hardeners chemically react with the concrete instead of just sitting on top like a sealer.

...and boy did I learn that lesson the hard way. I mixed in some calcium chloride once trying to speed up a cure on a hot day floor and ended up with this weird crusty surface that looked like a bad sunburn lmao. The next time I just used a densifier from the hardware store for a 20x20 slab and it came out way better, like you could bounce a quarter off it after a week. I still don't fully trust those fancy additives for small jobs though, feels like you're just asking for trouble if you don't get the ratio perfect. Sounds like yours turned out good but I'd probably just stick to a good sealer and call it a day on residential work.
