TIL a new city park in Springfield used stamped concrete that looks like wood planks.
I drove by the Riverside Park project yesterday and saw the finished walkways, which are this stamped pattern made to look like old barn wood. I think it looks fake and will wear poorly, but the crew I talked to said it's the hot new thing for public spaces. Am I the only one who thinks a simple broom finish would have been better and lasted longer?

Yeah, I'm with you on this one. Saw that same fake wood pattern at a new playground over in the west end last year. It already looks sad, all faded and the "planks" are wearing unevenly. Just give me plain concrete that ages all the same. Feels like a weird thing to spend extra on.

Oh man, I used to love that look until I saw how it ages.

Nah, I actually dig it. The worn look adds character, makes it feel like an actual boardwalk in a few years.
