Shop owner's comment about pump trucks made me rethink my pours

Had a chat with the old timer who runs the supply yard in Dayton this morning. He said we spend too much time fighting slump and not enough on the water-to-cement ratio before the truck even arrives. It hit different because he pointed at my last driveway pour, the one that took 6 hours, and said a pump truck would've saved us 2 of those hours just on placement. I never considered the pump because I figured the extra rental cost wasn't worth it, but he broke down the labor math with three guys standing around waiting. Now I'm second guessing my whole setup for bigger slabs, has anyone else switched to pumping for residential work and seen the time payoff?

My buddy rented one for a garage slab and we finished before lunch, it was nuts.
