Overheard a guy at the supply yard say he trowels in circles, not figure eights
Stopped by Allied Concrete Supply in Tulsa this morning to grab some bags and this older finisher was telling the counter guy he never does figure eights on a big slab, said it leaves ridges you cant see till the sun hits it. He said he does tight overlapping circles starting from the middle and working out, then pulls a straight edge behind him. Ive been doing figure eights for like 8 years and never noticed a problem, but now I want to try his way on a small garage pad this week. Anybody else switch their trowel pattern and see a real difference in the finish?

Buddy of mine ran a crew down in Broken Arrow and he made the switch after watching a finisher do circles on a warehouse floor. Said the ridges from figure eights only show up on cloudy days when the light hits sideways, which is why nobody catches it during the pour. He runs circles now on anything over 400 square feet and swears the straight edge pulls cleaner behind him.
