I used to think fiber mesh was a waste of time
Skipped it on a garage floor and paid the price. Now I add it to every mix, no questions asked.

To clairem81's question about the damage being bad, it definitely was. The guy had to fix his garage floor because it cracked without the fiber. That shows skipping it causes real problems.
