I swore by a 24-inch bull float for years but a weird driveway pour changed my mind

Had a 40-foot wide exposed aggregate driveway in Bakersfield where the mix was way wetter than expected, and my usual tool just pushed too much water to the edges. I ended up switching to a 48-inch magnesium float halfway through, which took an extra 90 minutes to set up and get used to. Anyone have a go-to trick for handling a really sloppy mix on a big flat pour?

We had a six man crew on a big patio pour in Tempe last summer and it was the only way to keep up. You just need more hands moving the material before it starts to set. That extra labor cost saved the finish.
