Can we talk about spraying the form oil with a pump sprayer instead of a rag?

I was finishing a 24x30 garage slab out in Sparks last week and kept getting those rough drag marks on the edges because my oil rag was leaving dry spots. A guy on the crew handed me a cheap 1 gallon pump sprayer and said just mist the forms light, don't soak em. First pour with it and the forms popped off clean, no scuffing, no touch up. Saved me probably 40 minutes of sanding the edges after. I mixed it 50/50 with diesel like he said and it went on way more even than the rag ever did. Anyone else spraying instead of wiping, or am I late to this one?
