The day I stopped trusting 'certified' CAT6 ends, 43 crimps later
After 3 years in the field I always crimped my own RJ45s for patch cables. Last month a client in Austin kept dropping gigabit speeds, and I re-terminated that same line like 5 times. Turns out my cheap crimp tool was slightly misaligned, the pins weren't seating flush no matter how hard I squeezed. I grabbed a $28 tester from Amazon and it showed the split pair problem immediately, not the tool. Now I always test before I even walk out the door, saves me 20 minutes of backtracking on every job. Anyone else had a bad batch of connectors that looked fine but failed under load?

A $28 tester lies too, mine passed cables that failed the fluke at 100m every time.
