That time a customer's backup drive was actually just a USB hub

So last tuesday this guy comes into my shop in Portland with a dead laptop, swears he backed up everything to an external drive. I plug it into my bench machine and Windows doesn't even see it. Pop the case open and there's no hard drive inside, just a circuit board with a USB port on it. Turns out he'd been plugging a flash drive into this empty shell thinking it was a real backup. Anyone else run into fake peripheral guts masquerading as storage gear?

Tighten all the screws first, that fixed my issue.
