That one guy on Reddit said to ignore the thermal paste replacement schedule

I got 5 years out of the stock paste on my 2019 gaming rig because some user named TechDad99 swore it was a waste of time. Last week my CPU hit 95C while idle and I pulled the cooler to find the paste was completely dry and cracked. Now I'm out an afternoon and a tube of Arctic MX-6 because I listened to bad advice. Anyone else have a forum post that cost them actual time or money?

That TechDad99 guy probably posts from a basement where ambient temp is like 60F. What brand and model was your CPU and cooler? Just wondering because some of those older Intel chips ran hotter by design and the paste drying out hits them faster. I've seen people on buildapc swear by "never repaste" but they're usually running low-end chips that don't push heat.

That "they're usually running low-end chips that don't push heat" part isn't totally right. Even a low-end chip can cook itself if the cooler is tiny and the thermal paste is years old.
