Spent $40 on a USB-C power delivery tester and it just saved a laptop repair

I was about to replace a motherboard on a Dell XPS that wouldn't charge, but the tester showed the charger was only putting out 9V instead of 20V. Swapped the charger and it booted right up. Anyone have a favorite diagnostic tool that's saved you from a misdiagnosis?

That little gadget paid for itself on the first use. My husband's old gaming laptop wouldn't charge one time, was about ready to chuck it. Bought one of those testers out of curiosity. Turned out his fancy 180W brick had a bad wire, not the laptop. $15 cable and we were back up and running. Sometimes the simplest fix is the one you overlook.

Oh man, that's awesome! I almost bought a new phone last year before a cheap cable tester showed me the issue was my busted charging brick.
