PSA: I swapped my thermal paste after 5 years and dropped 12 degrees

I finally got around to repasting my personal rig last weekend. It was a Ryzen 5 2600 I built back in 2019 and never touched since. After cleaning off the old crusty stuff and putting on some fresh Arctic MX-4, my idle temps went from 48C down to 36C. Has anyone else noticed big gains just from doing basic maintenance like this?

oh man, tell me about it. i did the SAME thing last month with my old i7-8700k and dropped like 10 degrees under load. it's honestly WILD how much difference fresh paste makes after a few years. kinda makes you wonder what else we're all neglecting, like cleaning out dust filters or checking fan curves. i swear, half the "my pc is overheating" posts on here could be solved with a tube of $10 paste and a can of compressed air. but nah, everyone wants to blame the case airflow or buy a new cooler instead. it's almost like we FORGET that thermal paste actually degrades over time, not just dries out, ya know?

My buddy Dave repasted his 4790k last week and his idle temps went from like 45 to 30. He was convinced his cooler was dying, had a new one in his Amazon cart and everything. I told him just try the paste first, saved him like 80 bucks.
