Pro tip: I started using a cheap label maker for all my SATA cables
My bench was a mess of identical black cables last month. After labeling both ends with the drive model and capacity, my rebuild time for a standard data migration dropped by about 15 minutes. Has anyone found a better system for keeping track of cables during a multi-drive swap?

Color coding with heat shrink tubing changed my whole workflow. I slip a small ring of red tubing on both ends for boot drives, blue for storage, green for backups. It's faster to scan than reading labels, especially in tight cases. The tubing costs almost nothing and survives way longer than paper labels.

Honestly @luna_green, I do the same but add a tiny zip tie next to the color for quick cable pulls.
