I fix my aunt's computer every month and I'm okay with it
Most techs I know say never work for family, but I think they're missing out. My aunt calls me whenever her laptop acts up, and it's led to some great talks. Last time, I showed her how to avoid viruses, and she baked me pies for a week. It's not just a chore, it's a way to connect and help someone learn.

Yeah I've always heard that rule about not working for family, but it seems like it misses the point. Sometimes that's just how you get to spend time with people, you know? Helping out can turn into a real nice visit.

Totally get what you're saying, @piperward. That rule always felt too cold to me. My uncle runs a small landscaping thing, and I used to help him on Saturdays just to hang out. We'd pull weeds for an hour, then spend three hours drinking lemonade and talking about old cars. It wasn't a job, it was just an excuse to be together. Fixing my sister's cabinet door last month turned into her showing me all her vacation photos. The work is just the reason you're there in the first place.
