Hot take: I spent 4 hours last Thursday tracing a phantom network drop in a Denver office only to find a chewed cable behind a filing cabinet.
The client swore they had no pets, but the teeth marks were clearly from a rodent, and now I'm adding 'wildlife inspection' to my basic diagnostic checklist.

Four hours on a phantom drop is brutal. I can't believe the client swore they had no pets with rodent teeth marks right there. That's a solid reason to add a wildlife check to the routine.

Why do people always lie about the obvious?

Used to roll my eyes at the 'check for animals' advice, thought it was just a meme from the old-timers on here. But after a similar two-hour wild goose chase last fall that turned out to be a squirrel nest in the crawlspace, I'm a full convert now. Your mileage may vary, but that wildlife check just saved you from doing the same dance again in a month.
