Had a Dell OptiPlex 3020 from 2015 die on me last Tuesday

It was a regular clean-up job for a small office in town, and the thing just wouldn't post. No beeps, no video, just the fan spinning up. I pulled the CMOS battery and tried a known-good PSU, but the mainboard was cooked. They didn't want to spend on a new board for a machine that old, so we just migrated the data and called it a day. Anyone have a good source for older OptiPlex parts, or is it just not worth the hassle anymore?

Check eBay for parts but honestly it's probably time to upgrade.

Upgrade to what though, that's the real question. Feels like every new model has some annoying flaw or missing feature the old one did right. Finding parts can be a pain but sometimes keeping the devil you know is better.

That's the thing though - the "devil you know" part is huge. I've got a buddy who upgraded his 10 year old sedan to a new compact hybrid and he can't even change his own oil without a computer scan tool now. Parts for older stuff might be annoying to hunt down but at least you can actually fix things yourself when they break. Maybe it's just me but I'd rather spend an afternoon digging through eBay for a used alternator than deal with a car that won't let me adjust the radio while driving.
