Serious question, has anyone else tried using a 2-inch PVC for a main drain in a small strip mall?

Everyone told me to go 3-inch minimum, but the specs and flow calcs said 2-inch was fine for this 3-unit spot in Tampa. Six months later, zero issues and saved the client about $800 on materials. Am I just lucky or are we over-sizing drains by default?

My old boss in Orlando swore by 2-inch for small jobs.

Honestly I've always found 2-inch to be overkill for most small stuff.

Totally agree, it just makes a mess. Rubyreed's old boss sounds like the kind of guy who'd use a sledgehammer to hang a picture. What do you usually use instead?
