Pro tip: The new backflow preventer code in Austin really caught me off guard last month.

I was doing a final inspection on a small office building and the inspector failed it because the device was three feet from the property line, not five. Had to redo the whole setup in a weekend. Anyone else run into this specific spacing rule change in their area?

Oh perfect, just what every job needs, a surprise game of codebook musical chairs. @henderson.kim has it right, these exact foot rules feel like they're made up by someone who's never had to move one in July. My favorite part is how the new spot is always exactly where the main line runs.

Man, that code change sounds familiar. Our local inspectors just started enforcing a similar rule about clearances around those devices last quarter. Had to move two of them on a project because they were too close to a fence line now. Makes you wonder who comes up with these exact measurements sometimes.
