Overheard a building manager in Cincinnati talk about his water hammer fix

I was grabbing coffee this morning and the guy next to me was on the phone, super loud. He was telling someone, 'We put in a 2-inch water hammer arrestor on the main line for the third-floor laundry bank, and the banging stopped overnight.' I always thought those were just for single fixtures, not whole systems. It made me rethink how we handle pressure spikes in big apartment builds. Has anyone else sized up arrestors for a central riser like that?

Ever get that loud bang from your own pipes?

Honestly I kind of like the bang... it's a sign the system is working hard. My old place would do it every morning like clockwork, just a solid thump when the heat came on. It became a weirdly comforting sound, like the house was waking up. Never bothered me at all.

Oh man, that loud bang is the worst. Scared me half to death last week when my heater kicked on.
