My sump pump float stuck open at 2am and taught me why old brass beats new plastic
I was at the Riverside Plaza job in Cincinnati three months back, doing a final walkthrough on a restaurant buildout when the grease interceptor started backing up into the prep sink. Turns out the guy who installed it used a flimsy plastic float switch instead of the old brass style, and it had cracked after only 8 months. I shut the main valve, pulled the whole assembly, and drove to a supply house on Vine Street that stays open till midnight. The counter guy laughed and said he sells 4 of those cheap floats a week now, because the new ones just don't hold up. I swapped in a heavier duty unit rated for 140 degrees and it's been running clean since. Anyone else notice that the old cast parts outlast the new molded stuff by a mile?
