My boss told me to always use a torque wrench on those big 4-inch flanges

I ignored him once on a hospital job and a gasket blew after six hours. Anyone else have a rule they learned the hard way?

Yeah, that's the universe charging the stupid tax. Bet you won't skip the torque wrench again after that mess. Some lessons just need a loud voice to get through.

Man, that's rough... but honestly, @gibson.oliver is right about the stupid tax. The thing people forget is it's not just about the gasket blowing. On a hospital job, you could've taken out critical air or medical gas lines. That's way bigger than a do-over and some overtime. The rule isn't just about doing the job right, it's about the chaos you cause for everyone else when you cut corners.

Tell me about it, my own stupid tax once bought a whole new engine block.
