Just tallied up the total linear feet of 4 inch PVC we ran for a new school project. It was over 2,800 feet. That number feels... huge.

Yeah, that's a serious run. Think about it, that's over half a mile of pipe just for drainage or whatever. It's not just the pipe itself, either. Every single joint needs primer, cement, and time to set. You've got hangers every few feet, all those fittings for turns and connections. The material cost alone on that is wild.

People forget the planning time too. Someone had to draw all that, then walk the site marking where each hanger goes. What if they hit rock or another pipe? That whole schedule gets wrecked waiting on an engineer to figure it out.

We had a job like that last year. Ended up using ground penetrating radar before we even started digging, saved us a ton of headaches. Still had a few surprises but nothing that shut us down.
