Hit 100 commercial service calls this year without a callback
I do commercial plumbing for a few office buildings and a strip mall in Tucson. On Wednesday I finished my 100th service call for 2024 and not one of them has needed me to come back for a fix. That feels huge for me because last year I had 7 callbacks on the first 100 and it bugged me nonstop. I just changed how I double check flanges and flush valves before I walk away. Anyone else track their callback rate or am I just weird about details?

Is it just the double check on flanges and flush valves that made the difference or did you change anything else about how you do the work? I'm curious because my husband does maintenance at a school and he swears by taking a picture of every job before he walks away so he can prove it was good if someone calls back. Seems like a lot of extra effort but maybe it pays off like your system does. What made you zero in on those two things specifically versus something like sealants or gaskets?

Your husband has a good point about the photos, it really does save headaches later. The reason I zeroed in on flanges and flush valves is because those are the two things that cause the most callbacks in my experience, not because sealants aren't important. It's like checking the tires and brakes on a car before a long trip, you focus on the parts that fail the most often. Once I started doing the double check on those two things, the leak rate dropped way down, and that made the photo system less necessary for me. It's funny how a small change in your routine can fix a bigger pattern of problems down the line.
