Heard a plumber at the supply house say he uses a wet vac to clear condensate lines, is that a real trick?
Was picking up some 2 inch PVC fittings at Ferguson in Denver last Tuesday and this older guy at the counter told the kid next to him he has cleared clogged condensate drains for 20 years with just a wet vac instead of a hand snake. He said he tapes the hose to the drain stub and lets it pull for a minute, claims it clears sludge better than anything else and he has not had a callback in a decade. I stood there holding my fittings thinking about all the times I have fought a drain pan full of that pink slime. Tried it on a rooftop unit in Aurora two days later and it pulled a gross gray glob straight out. Anybody else doing this on commercial RTUs or did I just get lucky?

Did you check what the condensate trap looked like after? I'd worry the vac is strong enough to suck the water seal right out of a trap and then you get sewer gas or attic air pulling into the unit.
