That supervisor's comment about my fin technique stuck with me for 8 years

Back in 2017 up in Aberdeen, a dive supervisor told me I was swimming like I was fighting the tide instead of working with it, so I slowed way down and let the current do half the pulling. Has anyone else gotten a critique that seemed small but ended up changing how you move underwater for good?

Eight years later and I still hear that voice every time I kick too fast, so now I swim like a lazy sea cow doing a budget impression of a mermaid. My fin technique went from "fighter" to "maybe she fell asleep down there" according to my last buddy. Took me a while to realize the current does most of the work, and my legs are just there for emotional support at this point. Probably why I burn through air slower now, so I got that going for me.
