Spent $340 on a hydraulic torque wrench for a job in Houston, and I'm still not sure if it was the best call or the worst
Dropped $340 on a used hydraulic torque wrench for a pipeline flange job in Houston last month, thinking it would cut my time in half compared to the old manual method, and it did save me about 3 hours on the first day, but then a seal blew on day two and I had to borrow a backup from a guy on site. So now I'm stuck debating whether that upfront cost was worth the speed boost or if I should have just rented one for the week at $90 a day and kept my cash. Anyone else been burned or saved by a big tool buy like this? What's your rule for when to buy versus rent?
