Shoutout to the old timer who told me to stop greasing my dive helmet O-ring
I thought he was off his rocker when he said it at the shop in Morgan City two months ago. We were rigging up for a job in 60 feet of murky water and he watched me smear silicone on the ring like I always do. He said the grease was trapping grit and that's why I kept getting slow leaks at the face seal. Sure enough, I ran the next three dives dry and the seal held clean every time. Anybody else been taught to grease it, or was I the only one doing it wrong this whole time?
