Rigged up a quick fix with a zip tie and it almost killed my comms

I was working a bridge inspection job in Portland last Thursday, 50 feet down in the Columbia River. My Kirby Morgan mask comms cut out halfway through the dive because the earphone wire came loose inside the rubber. Instead of aborting and surfacing, I tried to wedge a zip tie around the connector to hold it in place. That stupid fix worked for maybe 3 minutes before the whole thing shorted out and I lost all comms entirely. Had to do emergency hand signals to the tender and waste a whole hour surfacing and swapping gear. Has anyone else tried a Hail Mary repair like that and regretted it immediately?

Oh man, that's rough. I've definitely been there where a quick fix just makes everything worse, especially when you're already under pressure.

Buddy of mine did the same thing and his mic was dead for a whole shift.
