Random comment about air tables saved my dive planning

Honestly, I was on a job site in Port Fourchon last month and overheard an old saturation diver talking about how he uses his surface interval to plan the next dive's gas mix before he even gets out of the water. I always did that once I got back to the van, but doing it while still decompressing on the ladder makes way more sense. It shaved like 20 minutes off my turnaround time and I think my air consumption was better too because I wasn't rushing. I've been doing it now for about 3 weeks and my bottom time has been way smoother. Has anyone else picked up little tricks from listening to the older guys on deck? I feel like I missed out for 5 years.

The ladder trick is good, but the real gold is watching how they stage their bottles before they even hit the deck. One guy I know keeps a spare set of regs already tuned for the next mix in his gear bag, so when he's done he just swaps the whole thing out. No math on the fly, no fumbling with a wet pencil. Took me a while to realize he wasn't being lazy, just smart about reducing steps. Now I do the same with my bailout setup. Saves me about ten minutes and a lot of cuss words on rough days.
