Just realized my $80 'dive rated' flashlight wasn't actually dive rated after 30 feet

Bought it off Amazon, said it was good to 100 meters. Took it down on a job in Baltimore harbor last week, stopped working at 30 feet. Lost it too cause it went dark and I couldn't find it in the murk. Turns out it was just IP68 water resistant, not meant for depth. Anyone else get burned by gear that looks legit but isn't rated for real diving?

Get real, did you honestly trust some random Amazon listing for actual diving gear? Sounds like a cheap lesson, not a crisis.

Have we considered that maybe this person wasn't even trying to buy legit gear, but some cheap knockoff to use once and toss? I mean, the real story here might be about how Amazon's return policies are so easy it encourages people to treat it like a rental service. I've seen folks buy expensive stuff, use it for a trip, then send it back claiming it didn't fit. That's the kind of thing that drives prices up for everyone else trying to buy legit gear. Just a thought, but maybe this isn't about diving at all, it's about how we've all gotten comfortable gaming the system.
