Had to pick between a new dive computer or a better comms unit for my kit

Went with the comms upgrade because the old one kept cutting out during a bridge inspection job in Tampa. It made a huge difference for team coordination down there. Anyone else had to make a gear choice that felt like picking a favorite kid?

Choosing gear is the worst. My old dive light was so dim it was like trying to signal with a birthday candle, but I spent the money on new fins instead. Felt like a real genius when I was kicking against a current in the dark. Still saw nothing, but my legs weren't tired.

At least you could kick your way out of the dark.

Glad the comms upgrade worked out, but gotta say, a dive light isn't just for seeing. It's a primary safety tool for being seen, especially in murky water or under a structure. Choosing fins over a proper light is a gamble with your safety, not just a convenience thing. That birthday candle situation is how you get separated from your team or miss a hand signal.
