Had a through-hull fitting crack on me during a job in Norfolk last month

I was doing a routine hull inspection on a research vessel, about 20 feet down, when I noticed water trickling from a through-hull fitting for the engine cooling. Turned out the plastic was brittle and had a hairline fracture. I had to abort the dive and get the boat hauled out right away. Cost the client around $1,200 in emergency dry dock time. Has anyone else dealt with sudden fitting failures mid-dive? What do you carry as a backup just in case?

Read somewhere that bronze fittings are way less prone to that kind of failure.

yeah @the_felix is right, bronze just holds up way better in my experience too.
